Off to a good start

A start to making as many recipes as possible from the cookbook I got from my sister-in-law: Better Homes and Gardens: New Cookbook (according to my husband's research published in 1989). This is what it looks like:

So, here is what I made for day 1 of the Caster Cookoff:

Breakfast: Puffed Oven Pancake (p.72) with Rhubarb Sauce (p.139) - it was delicious and I was amazed by how much the pancake puffed up. Since my husband was still hungry after the pancake breakfast, I made a poached egg (p.144) on a slice of toast, which he happily ate. After the first meal of the Cookoff, he was already happy to have been selected as my primary guinea pig. :)

Lunch: Hot chocolate (p.27). It was very yummy! I also made some tuna sandwiches, but couldn't find a recipe in the cookbook, so that doesn't count.

Snack for my students: Coconut Macaroons (p.111). I meant to make these to resemble a Swiss cookie that we make, but they turned out very differently. Resembling a meringue, they are yummy and I'm sure my students will love them tomorrow.

Supper: Homemade pasta (p.266) with Pasta Primavera (p.268). We decided to make some kind of noodles since this was my first time making pasta myself (not counting the one time my aunt came over and made tortellini with my sister and myself - many years ago). It turned out great!

After day 1 - December 4, 2011 - that leaves me with a count of

Mirjam's completed recipes: 7
