First productive day after the flu

Breakfast: Scrambled Eggs (p. 148) with ham and toast

Dinner: Chicken Nuggets (p. 303), Carrot-Raisin Salad (p.346) with Mayonnaise (p. 355) and Risotto (p.272). I'll certainly have to try to make the mayonnaise again, because it doesn't taste all that great with rancid oil... :(

Back to the blog...

So, the other Caster household is also slowly recovering from the stomach flu. I can actually think about food again without feeling nauseous - yeay! But I think it'll be another while before my kitchen will produce more creations, especially since our fridge is full of left-overs...

So, here is what I made before the bug's visit...

Farmer's Breakfast (p. 148)
Chocolate Chip Pancakes (p. 72)
Pizza (p. 247)
Christmas Eve supper: Spaetzle (p.263) & Candied Sweet Potatoes (p. 404)
 Cheese Twists (p.17)
Desert for Christmas night: Double-crust Fruit Pie (p. 282) made with Pastry for Single-Crust Pie (p. 293)

And then I made two recipes that I unfortunately forgot to take a picture of: I made a Raisin Egg-Bread Braid (p. 44) with Powdered Sugar Icing (p. 88). I brought it as a pre-Christmas gift to a friend's house when we had dinner - that's probably in part why I forgot to take the picture...

As for my next kitchen project, it'll either involve a Dutch oven (yeay!) or possibly something that our dogs would appreciate. Because days and days of Cody resting his snout in Daisy's food bowl is bound to guilt me into making some dog treats (even though I have yet to find that recipe in my cookbook)!

Seriously, 43? Boy do I have some catching up!

With Christmas and the Caster household stomach flu I have gotten myself very behind on blogging and just
a little behind on my cooking.
Piccata Chicken (p.168)
Buttered  Parmesean Noodle(p.314)
Both dishes were easy and yummy!
Double Chocolate Orange Biscotti (p. 422)

French Toast (p. 255)
Standing Rib Roast (p. 93)
Yorkshire Pudding (p.93)
Baked Potato (p.302)
Oatmeal Raisin Cookies (p.410)
Well this one is up for debate since I left out the Raisins and added Coconut and Chocolate Chips

Hot Cocoa (p.28)
Whipped Cream (p. 353)
Lemon Yogurt Dip (p.16)
Apple Muffins (p. 30)

Yummy meal with one mini recipe

I made a yummy Riz casimir today (a Swiss chicken curry meal), which included some Whipped Cream (p. 140), which enabled Jessica to whip her first cream... I made sure that the picture not only shows the cream, but also the meal, which is obviously more worthy of a picture.

We also made some yummy salsa from a friend's recipe. Mmmhh...

Afternoon-consuming Deliciousness and Competitiveness

Today, I spent the better part of my afternoon making a delicious dinner (besides watching and answering the questions of my oldest nephew). It turned out great and was well worth the effort. Here's my version of packing 5 recipes into one meal: Corn-stuffed Pork Chops (p.231) - delicious way of adding some zing to pork chops (although the cookbook calls for way too much baking time) - accompanied by Applesauce (p.124) - pretty standard - and Broccoli-Carrot Stir fry (p.407) as the main course. I also made some Israeli Couscous, which turned out yummy, but is not from my cookbook...

Noah also helped me make a loaf of Sourdough Bread (p.42) and I used part of the dough to make Apple-Streusel Ladder Loaf (p.46), which was delicious. According to Charles' opinion, it even beats the apple dumplings from the other day. I'm not sure I would go quite that far, but it was really yummy.

Getting back to the game

Breakfast: Steaming Cinnamon-Raisin Oatmeal (p. 273). Even though it was ok and Charles liked the chopped nuts in there, I don't think I would make it again...
Supper: Cheeseburger (p. 243), which worked out to be very yummy, although kind of greasy and messy (on the hands and the oven...). I had a serving of Creamy Cucumbers (p.344) with it. Unfortunately it wasn't even close to what I had hoped for (I thought it would be like Greek Tzaziki).

Pancakes (p.63)

Basic Pizza Crust (p.61)

Snickerdoodles (p. 416) and Peanut Blossoms (p. 418)

Peaches n' Cream Puff Pancake (p. 63)

Pasta Carbonara (p. 143) and Pea Pod Medley (p. 300)

Lazy and comfy Sunday

Today, I decided to make Charles' favorite breakfast - French Toast (p.70).

In the afternoon, I made Banana-Spice Cookies (p.112), which is going to be my students' reward this week. They taste somewhat similar to banana bread. I think I'm just about done with all this sweet stuff, though...

For supper, we had Burritos (p.245). They turned out a little differently than I expected, but were yummy nevertheless.

Saturday - Cookies and Sweets

Brunch: Waffles (p. 71) and Fried Eggs (p. 146). The waffles turned out to be delicious and very airy!

Snack: Drop Cookies with Coconut (p.110). Quite yummy!

In the evening, our husbands were on an unforeseen road trip, so Jessica and I had a night of making cookies and candy together.
I did manage to sneak in some recipes from my cookbook: Shortbread (p.120) and Caramels (p.95). Jessica decided to take the challenge to a whole new level and helped me burn my shortbread by turning the oven off on me, but they still turned out pretty good. :) The caramels are chewy and quite yummy!
